It's A Blog World Out There...

And now I'm attempting to become a part of it by joining the more than 5o million blogs that are floating around in cyberspace. I'm not really sure why, other than the fact that blogging seems to be, at the very least, a way for people to stay connected and, at its best, a means to organize and affect change. In between, blogging is a tool to help inform, entertain and persuade people.
Perhaps, the catalyst for my entry into the blogging world comes from my recent participation in a Citizen Journalism Academy sponsored by our local media source-The World Company (print, broadcast and online) and Kansas University's William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. This academy is believed to be the first collaboration of its kind for the purpose of educating citizens in the area of citizen journalism or open source reporting.
Dan Gillmor, a leader in this field of grassroots journalism and author of "We the Media" describes the "evolution from journalism as a lecture to journalism as a conversation or seminar." We, as citizens, can and must join in this conversation so that we become truly informed and thus active participants in determining our future. We are all, taken individually,
just blades of grass in this movement but together, we form huge fields which can cover our world. Together we will work for freedom of information.
